General Home Inspection FAQs
What is a home inspection?
A home inspection is a visual evaluation of a property’s accessible systems and components, performed by a licensed inspector. The goal is to identify visible defects, safety concerns, and maintenance issues so clients can make informed decisions.
How long does a home inspection take?
Inspection times vary by size and condition of the property, but most inspections take between 2 and 4 hours.
Do I need to attend the inspection?
Attendance is not required, but clients are welcome to attend near the end of the inspection to review findings and ask questions directly with the inspector.
What happens after the inspection is complete?
After the inspection, you’ll receive a detailed digital report with photos and explanations of findings. The report helps guide negotiations, repairs, or future maintenance planning.
Does a home inspection pass or fail a property?
No. Home inspections are informational only. There is no pass or fail — the report documents the condition of the property at the time of inspection.
Are inspectors allowed to move furniture or open walls?
No. Home inspections are non-invasive and do not include moving furniture, opening walls, or performing destructive testing.
Is a home inspection required for new construction?
While not required, inspections are highly recommended for new construction. Even newly built homes can have defects or incomplete work that should be addressed early.
